Thiruvananathapuram: The transgender community working with the Kochi metro will be soon provided with proper housing facilities.

Minister KT Jaleel has directed KMRL and Kudumbasree to take the necessary measures towards this matter. The ministerial interference came after the reports that a number of transgender people have already quit their job and others are on the verge of it as they couldn’t find proper and safe lodgings in the town.

Recently Manorama News had reported that the transgender community is denied proper accommodation and this has put them in a rather difficult situation.

Following this report, the government has decided to interfere; minister KT Jaleel who is charge of Kudumbasree said that the KMRL itself would take the required measures to arrange housing facilities for the transgender community and the Kudumbasree will coordinate it.

Accommodating the transgenders in a hostel run by nuns at Kakkanadu Kochi is being considered right now. The KMRL informed that arranging transportation facilities for them to get back and forth their work place would also be taken into account.
