Kochi: The Kochi Metro train rode into the heart of Kochi city Friday morning.

The first trial run on the Metro track between Palarivattom and Maharajas College Ground began at 10.30 am.

Once the trials stretched over several days are successful, regular service will begin next month between Aluva and Maharajas College Ground.

Five stations which could get extremely crowded are located in this path: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kaloor Junction, Lisie Junction, MG Road and Maharajas College Ground.

Agencies handling the Metro rail decided to stage the trial run Friday morning after some technical snags were resolved last night.

The train left Kaloor stadium station at 10.30 am to begin the trial run. Ahead of the test, electrical systems on the track and signals were perfected last night and the train readied.

The trial run will continue for a month. If successful, regular service will start from the end of next month. The track up to Maharajas College Grounds is part of the first stage though the service at present is between the 13-kilometer Aluva-Palarivattom stretch only.
