Tips for a better kurinji experience

Idukki: As the district administration has devised strict measures in Munnar area during the neelakurinji season – Kurinji 2018, district collector G. R. Gokul shared some tips to have a better kurinji experience.

The Kurinji season is expected to begin in August.

Avoid weekends: In an appeal to those planning to visit Munnar during the kurinji season, the district collector has asked public to plan visits during weekdays. Going by the general pattern of tourist flow to the hill station, even during off seasons, the weekends would see a major spike in the number of visitors.

Travel in small groups: “Make sure that you visit in a staggered way rather than coming to Munnar in big groups.” There is going to be extensive travel restrictions in place and movement of large vehicles won't be allowed beyond set points. Stay online: The district collector advised the kurinji enthusiasts to plan their trip only after checking the special website, which will be launched on June 1, to give live updates on tourist density, ticket status, parking availability and other major developments.

Word of caution: Once the maximum number of visitors per day is reached visitors will be stopped from proceeding to Munnar at Marayoor, Adimali or other points. If the portal shows anything above 75 per cent, reschedule your travel plans.
