Bollywood fashion trendsetter Manish Malhotra had been a close companion of the legendary actor Sridevi. Behind the several showstopping attires she's worn for award shows, photo-shoots, public events and movies, there were hidden hands of the Bollywood's designing maestro, who has been defining the subcontinent's fashion waves for over thirty years now.
For Malhotra, the deceased veteran actress was far more than a client or a colleague. “I just can't point out one single thing that I keep close to heart about Srideviji.. there are a lot many things. She's been my favorite person ever since I met her,” Manish Malhotra told Onmanorama, while attending India Fashion Summit 2018 at Hotel Marriott on March 3 Saturday.
Commenting on Sridevi's professionalism, Malhotra said that she always maintained a crystal-clear view about what she's up to. “It is her focus what kept her apart from the other artists. Whatever she's into, be it acting, choosing a costume, or even a friendly conversation, Srideviji was so sure and visioned about what she was doing. I admire her as an artist, a mother, a wife and a friend. Her commitment and sincerity to everything and everyone is unequaled,” he said.
Manish Malhotra said that Sridevi was more than just a friend or companion to him. “She was my family member. I had been associating with her for twenty eight years! Do you think it is a short period to develop a beautiful relationship? She was my family and my best friend. This is the first time I step out of my home after her demise. I am not yet over it and I haven't yet accepted it fully,” Manish Malhotra said, trying to restrict his emotions.
He also said that all along these 28 years, he has never heard Sridevi speak ill about other people. “She was so full of enthusiasm for herself, her work and her family,” he added.
A range of ivory cotton couture designs this summer
Commenting on the major changes Indian fashion industry, Manish Malhotra said that cotton handloom is all set to rule global fashion scenario this year. “Kerala has a very vibrant range of cotton couture. We haven't forgotten Srideviji's ivory cotton costume in last year's fashion week. This summer I'm coming up with a range of ivory cotton handloom wear as a theme for summer weddings. As a designer, I shall include cotton Kurtas, salwars, and all types of dresses in it. Because India's handloom has been particularly positioned as a global brand. It will rule the forthcoming fashion waves,” he said.
