Meet Miss Kottayam – up close with Namitha Susan Jain

The CMS college campus grounds replete with trees that may have witnessed countless strikes, friendships and cupid diaries. There couldn’t be anything more enjoyable than hanging around this campus, for youngster Namitha Susan Jain. Until this October 1st, she was just another cool girl, content with her college life, friends and family. But now things have changed and all this hype came with a special title that she won for herself – Miss Kottayam! Namitha tells Onmanorama about her modeling stints and of her plans for the future.

Tell us about your journey in the world of modeling.

It is hard to believe, but this is honestly my first beauty contest. It was my friend’s mother who insisted that I send my application after notice an advertisement in the newspaper regarding the contest. Three friends of mine had signed up along with me for the fun of it all. They were with me till the final round of the contest.

How does it feel to win the Miss Kottayam title?

It was totally unexpected as the first and second runners up contestants were really tough to beat. We had to perform before many eminent model photographers, models, film directors and fashion designers. Though the tension was not very evident on my face, I was quite nervous in the inside. Many couldn't believe that it was my first ramp walk!

Is there a special wish that you would like to fulfil?

Nothing extraordinary! I should be able to make a living without depending upon anybody. I have no plans of letting my education take a backseat and pursue modeling in a full-fledged manner. Many years down the lane, I don’t want to look back and regret that I missed out on an education. Studies are my priority. Life without that is empty.

Are you interested in getting into acting?

Me and acting! No way. I can’t even pose for a photograph without laughing my head-off. Again, if the role is of a 'cool' character like me, I could maybe give it a shot!

Miss Kerala, Miss India, have you begun dreaming about these stages?

Not yet! Many did advise me that I should consider this field seriously. I am a final year undergraduate student. If I turn my attention to another route, everything that I studied till now will go in vain. So for now, I want to concentrate on getting my degree.

Any beauty secrets?

None! I am extremely lazy when it comes to beauty regimes and maintaining myself. That is my mother’s department. I don’t even apply face powder when I step out.

What are your hobbies?

Music, dancing and reading. I like indulging in any of these.

What is your favorite food?

I could eat anything when I am hungry. No food crazes as such.

What’s your favorite outfit?

Anything I am comfortable in. Nobody should be able to find any faults with whatever I wear.

What’s your favorite color?

Earlier when I go shopping for clothes I end up selecting variety colors. But now it is always black that I first choose.
