The elevation is striking. The colour scheme, stunning. A mix of the ultra-modern and the very traditional, this 2664 sq ft house on 17 cents of land in Kuttikattoor, Kozhikode, is an elegant study in white tones. In fact, the structure looks every inch striking because of its colour theme in pristine white. The tile-laid sloping roofs complement the look of the structure. Doors and windows all over bring in natural light and fresh air. It’s this feature that keeps the insides cool always, in all seasons.
The drawing room is simple and elegant. Almost all the major floors have been done using Italian marble. However, the family living and the bedrooms are laid with wood-finish tiles. The semi-partition in the formal living is of multiwood with CNC designs on it. Almost all the rooms enjoy cross ventilation which again is a factor contributing to the cool feel inside.
The initial plan was to build a courtyard inside. On second thoughts, this space was converted into a family living area. The design highlight here is the vertical skylight on one side of the wall as also on the roof top. These vents let in ample sunlight. The curtains go well with the warm colour tones of the interiors and add to the elegance of the rooms.
Another eye-catching feature is the spiral staircase which has been beautifully crafted. Teakwood and toughened glass on the sides make it a piece of artistry. The space between the staircase and the dining area has been separated with pillars in teak wood and covered with glass panels. This is another design element which adds substance to the interior décor. The staircase opens out into an upper living space.
The glass-topped dining table can seat 10 people. The chairs are elegant.
There are four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, wardrobes and study area. The floor area around the beds have been paved with wood-finish tiles and the rest of the area has been laid with vitrified tiles. The minimally-designed gypsum-veneer fold ceiling is another striking feature of this house.
The kitchen is simple, yet elegant and utilitarian. It’s granite for the counter top. A small breakfast counter with Korean top also adorns the kitchen.
