This boy saved a 58-year-old man from death

A school boy from Harippad has been hailed as a hero after he saved an elderly man from drowning in a water-logged field.

Muhammed Insaf was cycling back from school when he heard a groaning sound from a nearby field. Soon, he spotted a man who was stuck neck-deep in the marshy field. Without thinking much, Insaf dived into the water and dragged the man to the road. He then called out for help and people who rushed to the spot took the man to the hospital.

Later, it turned out that the man was stuck in the field for more than 20 hours and his family members were searching for him since morning. Sasidaran (58) of Vettuveni Unni Nivas was earlier working abroad. He has a memory problem and a speech impediment. Sasidaran had left his house the previous night and is supposed to have fallen into the field by accident.

The field in which he fell has been lying unused for several years now and is filled with water weeds.

Insaf is the son of Harris of Haripad Vettuveni Eden Gardens and is a student of Bethany Central School in Nangyarkulangara.
