Dislocated girder halts traffic on Enathu Bailey bridge

The iron girder plate, which was in a derelict state, got dismantled after being scraped off by the bottom of a car.

Adoor: Traffic through the Enathu Bailey bridge across Kallada river here along MC Road has been stalled as one of the iron girders on the bridge was found dislocated. Now, only two-wheelers are allowed to pass through the bridge.

The damage was spotted on the south of the bridge Thursday evening. The iron girder plate, which was in a derelict state, got dismantled after being scraped off by the bottom of a car.

As the temporary bridge was constructed by the Indian Army, repair works can’t be carried out without their assistance. It has been just one month since the bridge was opened to public. Apparently, vehicles had been plying on the bridge beyond permissible speed limits.

The Bailey bridge was built when the Enathu was closed for repair works a few months ago.

Bailey bridge is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge that has been extensively used since World War II.
