Godman rape case 'victim' under house arrest? Boyfriend files habeas corpus plea

Self-styled godman, Swamy Gangeshananda, alias Sreehari

Thiruvananthapuram: In the latest development in the godman 'rape' case, the 'victim's' boyfriend has alleged that she was under house arrest.

The law student's boyfriend, Ayyappadas, has filed a habeas corpus plea in the court, stating that the woman was missing. The court has sought an explanation from the police.

The controversial case, which grabbed national headlines, has seen many twists and turns after the said incident on May 18. It was first reported that the 23-year-old woman chopped off the genitals of the godman while resisting his rape attempt.

Earlier this week, the woman said she did not perform the act but it was her boyfriend Ayyappadas and two of his accomplices who did so. She said the police fabricated the story. She also said that the godman never misbehaved with her.

The woman made the statement through a letter, which was submitted by the counsel of the accused to the court.
