Kochi: Pratheesh Chacko, Pulsar Suni’s former defense counsel has been released on bail after being arrested for alleged suppression of evidence in the actress attack case.
Chacko had been under police scanner ever since Suni deposed before the probe team that he had handed over the phone in which he recorded the obscene images of the actress to the lawyer.
But the lawyer smelt the trouble beforehand and went absconding following actor Dileep’s arrest. Chacko had represented Suni at the earlier stage of the case. Chacko had moved an anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court, which, however, made it clear that the lawyer cannot escape interrogation.
As per the Kerala High Court directive, Chacko appeared before the probe team on Thursday. After recording his statement, the team arrested him. Later, he was released on bail.
Earlier, the police had claimed that the phone used by the prime accused tovideotape the assault was handed over to Dileep through Chacko.
Dileep was arrested by the police on July 10 in connection with the abduction and assault of the young actress in Kochi on February 17. The police had arrested Pulsar Suni, who had worked as a driver of many film personalities, six days after the incident. A letter, which Pulsar Suni purportedly wrote to actor Dileep, had caused a furore.
Dileep had undergone a marathon 13-hour grilling at the Aluva police club days ahead of his arrest. The actor had approached the police saying that the prime accused tried to blackmail him from jail. Things went awry for Dileep after the police found discrepancies in his statements.
