This Kasaragod village waits for little Sana Fathima: where is she?

The disturbing news once again puts the spotlight on similar instances of children going missing under mysterious circumstances in Kerala.

Diya Fathima (2)

August 1, 2014: This toddler went missing while she was playing in the courtyard of her house at Iritti in Kannur. Her mother, who was with her, went inside the house to get food for her and when she came back after a few minutes, Diya was nowhere to be seen. Initially, it was suspected that she could have drowned in a nearby small rivulet; but the search conducted in almost all the water bodies in the area proved to be in vain. The missing kid’s relatives said that the toddler who had just learned to walk couldn’t have reached the rivulet, which was 85 meters away. Her relatives had spotted a video of a man and a woman with three children at Angamaly in which one of the kids looked like Diya. However, they alleged that the police did not conduct further probe into this.

Thahir (2)

September 20, 1996: The elder son of Jaleel and Rasheeda, Thahir, disappeared while playing in front of his house near Kanjirappally, Kottayam. Both the police and the Crime Branch who investigated the case couldn’t find the missing boy. Years later, a boy found at Ernakulam was suspected to be Thahir but a DNA test proved otherwise.

Rahul (7)

May 18, 2005: Son of Raju and Mini, seven-year-old Rahul, went missing while playing cricket with his friends at a nearby ground in Ashramam Ward, Alappuzha. Even after 12 long years and a probe by the CBI couldn’t find a lead to unfold the mystery behind Rahul’s disappearance.

Praveen Raj (11)

September 15, 2014: Thiruvananthapuram natives Rajan and Prasanna’s son, Praveen Raj, had gone missing on the day he went to the beach along with his father and brother. Though rumors were rife that a boy found at Kottayam railway station in 2016 was Praveen, it turned out to be someone else.
