Thiruvananthapuram: Putting an end to a big political controversy, the Kerala government has revised the list of prisoners to be released before completion of their terms.
The new list does not include the names of the convicts in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case or controversial businessman Mohammed Nisham, who is serving term for the murder of Chandrabose. Their inclusion in the earlier list had sparked a major row.
The government has now submitted the new list before the governor for approval. In the event of the Governor giving his nod to the latest list containing 739 names, these prisoners will be considered to have completed their full term and walk free. The governor had earlier sent back the previous list to the government, causing a major embarrassment to the ruling front. Following which, the government omitted the controversial names from the list.
It is also learnt that the government made this move in the backdrop of the upcoming Chengannur assembly by-election.
