Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the state is yet to recover from the shock of fireworks disaster at the Puttingal Devi Temple in Paravur, Kollam, on Sunday, the state police on Wednesday maintained that the pyrotechnic display should be banned completely.
Kerala police chief T.P. Senkumar conveyed to Advocate General in writing that regulations won't be effective and that there are some practical difficulties in putting in place the regulatory measures.
Mega-scale fireworks display are regularly conducted at more than 3,000 centres, including temples and churches in the state. It would be a grueling task to conduct raid at these centres and ascertain the measurement of explosive materials stored there.
The police have limitations to check and find out whether the explosive materials contain banned chemical substances.
