Jammu & Kashmir CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed dies

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away in the wee hours of Thursday, two weeks after he was admitted to the AIIMS following fever and respiratory problems.

The 79-year-old leader, who was in the Intensive Care Unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), was flown to the institute on December 24, last year following complaints of severe fever, respiratory problems and neck pain. For the past few days, the Chief Minister was on a ventilator.

Sayeed is survived by his wife, three daughters including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and a son.

The mortal remains of the Chief Minister would be flown to Srinagar where the body will be kept for people to have the last glimpse of their leader. He is likely be buried in his ancestral village in South Kashmir.

Mufti was a patient of acute diabetes and underwent routine check-up every month at the institute.
