The Bombay High Court has acquitted Bollywood actor Salman Khan of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case. A look into the chronology of events leading to Salman's acquittal in the case 13 years since the accident happened.

September 28: Salman Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser rams into a bakery in Bandra West in Mumbai - 1 person killed, 4 injured

September 28: Salman arrested, granted bail

October 21: Salman charged under Section 304 II of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder)

Year 2003

March: Salman challenges application of Section 304 II

May: Court rejects actor's petition, asks the magistrate's court to frame charges

June: Salman appeals in Bombay High Court. HC observes section is not applicable in the case.

October: Maharashtra government challenges HC order in Supreme Court

December: SC rules that the magistrate should decide on the section

2006

October: Bandra metropolitan magistrate court frames charges against the actor under section 304 I (rash and negligent driving)

2007

May: Report suggests that Salman was drunk, when the accident happened

2011

March: Prosecution seeks harsher charges against the actor

2012

December: Case made out under Section 304 II. Bandra court commits the trial to Mumbai sessions court

2013

March: Salman challenges the lower court order by filing a revision application with the sessions court

June 24: Sessions court rejects application

July 23: Sessions court then frames charges against Salman - 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'

December: Sessions court orders re-trial, and recording of statements from all witnesses

2014

April: First witness deposes in the re-trial

July: Original statements of witnesses go missing from Bandra police station. Court orders probe

September: Documents found, produced before court

2015

March: Special Public Prosecutor examines 27 witnesses in re-trial, closes case

April 20: Prosecution begins

April 20: Hearing ends

April 20: Date set for verdict

May 6: Salman Khan convicted of all charges, including culpable homicide, and sentenced to 5 years in prison. Gets interim bail for 2 days.

May 8: Bombay High Court suspends 5-year sentence and grants him bail

December 10: Bombay HC acquits him of all charges, quashes his conviction and 5-year sentence
