New Delhi: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with citizens through a townhall, the first of its kind event by an Indian prime minister. It marks two years of 'MyGov' initiative, the government's citizen engagement platform.
Here are the top ten quote his speech:
1. It makes me angry that people are running shops in the name of cow protection. Most of them are anti-social elements hiding behind the mask of cow protection. I will ask state governments to prepare a dossier on such people as 80 percent of them will be found to be involved in anti-social activities which no society will approve of. 2. Facilities available in cities must be made available to villages. Rurban Mission is a Smart City Plus program. 300 villages have been identified. These villages will be developed as growth centers for the area by creating city-like-infrastructure, from education and healthcare to digital connectivity.
3. The diaspora community has become very proactive, assertive and they can help in improving ties with many countries. India is making its place (in the world) with new energy and prestige.
4. Our country has always believed that good governance is bad politics. After winning one election, government keeps thinking how to win the next election. They are focused on how to increase political base and ways to get more votes and hence going forward it collapses.
5. With rapid and continued economic growth of over 8 per cent over the next 30 years, we can have whatever best we see in the world.
6. Today if something happens at the Panchayat level, I am asked questions; if something happens at Nagar Panchayat level, I am asked questions; if something happens at zilla parishad, I am asked questions; if something happens at nagar palika, I am asked questions; if something happens at Mahanagar Palika, I am asked questions; if something happens in states, then also reply is sought from the prime minister. Politically it is fine, for TRP also it might be fine, but it creates problem for the prime minister.
7. India first is the central point (of our foreign policy). It is about protecting India's strategic interest, it is to ensure that India marches forward in achieving economic prosperity by leaps and bounds and reaches the position which it is destined to reach.
8. Use khadi and handloom for at least 5 percent of your clothing. This will help to boost the textile sector, which is the second biggest employment provider in the country.
9. Only casting your vote is not enough. Participatory democracy is essential.
10. Agricultural sector plays a crucial role in economic growth. Need to learn how to link agriculture with modern technology and educate the farmers.
