Kottayam: Malayala Manorama will honour the Kerala football team which won the national Santosh Trophy football championship in Kolkata on Sunday.
Each member of the squad will be awarded one sovereign of gold.
In 1972, when Kerala won their maiden Santosh Trophy under T K S Mani's captaincy, a warm reception had been accorded to the team at the Malayala Manorama office in Kottayam.
The cup winning team of 1992 was also honoured with a cash award of Rs 1,00,001.
I M Vijayan, who was adjudged ‘player of the tournament’ in the 1993 edition, received a golden boot sponsored by Manorama, while members of the Kerala team which lifted the cup in 2004 were presented gold medals.
