Kochi: Athlete P.U. Chitra has moved the Kerala High Court seeking a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for not including her in the Indian squad for the World Athletics Championships despite a high court order in her favor.
Chitra, who was overlooked for the mega event in London despite winning 1,500m gold in the Asian Championships, has also demanded framing of guidelines for selection of athletes to compete in national and international competitions as well as guidelines for selection of coaches.
The AFI had dropped her from the Indian contingent by pointing out that she failed to meet the qualifying mark for the biennial event. Though the HC directed the AFI to include her in the Indian team, the AFI took the stance that it was not possible as the entry for the global event was over.
