Spice Coast Kochi Marathon: Rajesh Namboodiripad emerges champ

Kochi: Rajesh Namboodiripad emerged champion in the Spice Coast Marathon at the Port Trust Ground in Wellington Island on Sunday. Rajesh finished with a time of three hours and three minutes.

Mavelikara native Soji Mathew won the half-marathon in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Earlier, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar flagged off the marathon - jointly organized by Cochin Corporation, Souls of Kochi, and Malayala Manorama – in the morning. Competitions were held in three categories: a full marathon with a distance of 42.2 km, half-marathon of 21.1 km and a family marathon of 8 km.

The full marathon began at 4 am, while the half-marathon and family run took off at 5 am and 7 am, respectively.

Only registered members were allowed to participate in the marathon.

The event aimed at spreading awareness among the public on the corporation’s ongoing drive against plastic waste.

IDBI Federal Life Insurance was the main sponsor of the event, held in partnership with the Kochi Metro Rail Limited and the District Tourism Promotion Council.
