A soft food diet consists of dishes that are low in fibre, soft in texture and easy to digest.
The Cleveland Clinic says it's beneficial for those suffering from digestive issues, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and after surgery in the mouth, stomach, head, or neck.
A soft diet can include tender cuts of beef and pork, chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, and creamy nut butters.
A few fruits, such as bananas, peeled apples, pears, and avocado, along with their pulp, can be included.
Potatoes without skin, well-cooked or canned veggies without skin or seeds, tomato paste, olives and vegetable juice should be included.
Dry or cooked cereals, white rice and pasta, white bread, crackers, graham crackers, cow's milk, non-dairy milk, cheese, yoghurt, plain ice cream, sherbet, pudding and gelatin are beneficial additions.
Honey, ground spices, herbs, and salts are also good soft-diet ingredients.
