The Aranmula vallasadya of Kerala is one of the largest vegetarian feasts in the world, with around 70 dishes.
It is served at the Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy Temple in Pathanamthitta, as part of the ritualistic Aranmula snake boat race.
According to sadya expert Omallur Venugopal, here's how to enjoy the sadya, ensuring health.
Start with a little rice and dal with ghee. You can have sweet pachadi, papad, and inji (ginger) curry with it as well.
Next, have rice with sambar, aviyal, koottucurrry (mixed vegetable curry), inji curry, hog plum and mango pickles. Gooseberry pickle can also be had with this.
It's time to enjoy porridges. Have ada pradhaman (porridge) with papad, with a small taste of lemon pickle. But, avoid the pickle with paalpaayasam.
End the sadya having a little rice with kaalan(yoghurt-banana), olan(pumpkin-cowpeas), moru(yoghurt-turmeric) and rasam(tomato-tamarind -chillies) curries.
