Extreme obsession with eating clean can take a toll both physically and mentally on a person.
The pathological obsession with eating healthy foods is termed Orthorexia Nervosa, says the Cleveland Clinic.
Here are a few symptoms of those suffering from the condition:
a) Eating only 'clean' or 'healthy' foods b) Avoiding certain food groups like dairy and carbs fully c) Obsession with a negative self-image d) Obsession with detoxes or cleanses e) Avoiding socialising to ensure food restrictions f) Careful scrutinising of nutrition labels
Those suffering from Orthorexia can feel anxious if asked to eat foods that don't fit their rules.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy may help those suffering from Orthorexia, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
