Stowaway dog holds up train for half an hour

Railway employees and security personnel who surrounded the train at the Palakkad Junction railway station found that the ticketless traveller was actually a stray dog.

Palakkad: The Sabari Express from Hyderabad reached Palakkad on Saturday with a passenger who opted to travel on top of the train. All stations en route to Thiruvananthapuram were put on alert after the passengers noticed that someone was moving on top of the coaches.

Railway employees and security personnel who surrounded the train at the Palakkad Junction railway station found that the ticketless traveller was actually a stray dog.

When the train reached Palakkad around 11 am, the stray was desperately trying to get off it. CRPF head constable S Sooraj, who was travelling on the same train, stepped on his friend’s shoulder and climbed on to the roof of the train. The panicked animal charged at him but it was quickly shoved out of the roof.

Sooraj said that the dog probably got on top of the train from Hyderabad itself.

The train was held up at Palakkad by half an hour on account of the rescue bid.
