‘Bombay Tailors’, one of Malayalam theatre’s most celerated plays, is all set to return to Kochi, nearly a decade after it made its premiere in 2016. Written and directed by renowned theatre-maker Vinod Kumar, ‘Bombay Tailors’ explores the evolution of Malayalam theatre, cinema, and costume culture from the 1960s to the present. The play is an adaptation of Mohammed Khadeer Babu’s well-known Telugu short story titled ‘New Bombay Tailors’ and has been widely regarded as a work that artfully blends historical detail with emotional depth.
A major highlight of the revival of ‘Bombay Tailors’ is the return of National Award-winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi, who reprises the central role, bringing her unmatched talent back to the stage. The production is also enriched by the musical contributions of renowned singers Sithara Krishnakumar, Maqbool, and Sudarshan, who lend their voices to the performance. In addition, Surabhi Lakshmi has written the lyrics and composed the music, adding a deeply personal touch to the production.
The play's ensemble is further strengthened by prominent actors such as Srikanth Murali, Sneha Sreekumar, Arun C.M., Kumar Sunil, and Meenakshy Madhavy, each playing pivotal roles. The choreography, which brings an additional layer of visual dynamism, is designed by the acclaimed actor and dancer Ramzan.

Originally staged in 2016 by Atheethi: A Space for Dance and Theatre, ‘Bombay Tailors’ went on to receive four Kerala State Awards, including Best Script, Best Play, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The revived production will be staged on November 26 at the Chavara Cultural Centre in Ernakulam.
