Adoor Gopalakrishnan wins JC Daniel award

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Goplakrishnan has been chosen for this year's JC Daniel award.

The coveted award, presented annually by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, honors the recipients for their "outstanding contributions to Malayalam cinema".

The award has been instituted to commemorate the contributions of filmmaker J. C. Daniel, who is often regarded as the "father of Malayalam cinema".

An alumnus of the Film Institute of India, Pune, Adoor pioneered the film society movement in Kerala.

Adoor has received national awards for best director five times and best screen play and best film twice each.

He has also won several international honors including the British Film Institute Award for 'the most original and imaginative film' for 'Elippathayam' in 1982.

His major works include 'Mukhamukham', 'Anantaram', 'Mathilukal', 'Vidheyan' and 'Nizhalkkuthu'. 'Pinneyum' featuring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan was his last release.
