Kozhikode: The first anniverssary of late scriptwriter T. A Razzaq, passed unnoted Tuesday, as Malayalam filmdom seems to have conveniently forgotten his contributions to the Industry.
The film fraternity has also failed to release the Rs 25 lakh financial aid announced last year to his family. However, Razzaq’s close relatives and friends gathered to pay tributes to him at a modest function organized on the premises of his rented house in Kozhikode. Directors Padmakumar and Shajoon Kariyal were the only two film personalities who attended the commemoration meeting.
The film fraternity had organized a cultural program on August 15 last year in a bid to raise funds for his treatment. There were allegations that the organizers deliberately delayed the news of his death, in order to proceed with the mega event.
Though it was promised that a fund of Rs 25 lakh raised through the program would be handed over to Razzaq’s kith and kin, the family, reportedly, has not received a single penny yet.
“The Malayalam film world has forgotten him after his death. I’m aware of their busy schedule, so no complaints,” Shahida said.
The late Cochin Haneefa and A. K. Lohithadas too were treated in a similar manner, pointed out Razzaq’s friends. In fact, the Kozhikode Pouravali (citizens’ forum) had planned a function to commemorate Razzaq, but was canceled due to lack of support from the film fraternity. The organizers, however, claimed that the plan was dropped because the chief minister was unavailable.
Razzaq, who handled the script for some memorable Malayalam movies such as Kanakinavu, Ghazal, Perumazhakalam, Aayirathil Oruvan and Thalolam, died at the age of 58, while undergoing treatment for liver-related problems.
