Los Angeles: 'The Handmaid's Tale' and political comedy 'Veep' won the top prizes at the Emmy awards on Sunday, where 'Saturday Night Live' was also a big winner on a night dominated by jokes about US president Donald Trump. Here are the highlights:
• Here's the big award of the night- 'The Handmaid’s Tale' wins best drama series. Hulu is the first streaming site to win the Emmy for drama series, beating Netflix and Amazon.
• Elisabeth Moss wins best lead actress in a drama series for 'The Handmaid’s Tale'. Finally, she wins Emmy after nine nominations. Congrats Moss!
• Sterling K. Brown wins best lead actor in a drama series for 'This Is Us'
• The best limited series is 'Big Little Lies'
• Black Mirror: San Junipero wins best television movie
• And the best lead actress in a limited series or a movie is... Nicole Kidman for 'Big Little Lies'. It's the first Emmy for the Oscar-winner.
• Riz Ahmed wins best lead actor in a limited series or a movie for 'The Night Of'. Guess what... he beat Robert De Niro and Ewan McGregor for the award. He is the first actor of Asian descent to win an Emmy for acting. Good job Ahmed!
• HBO's 'Veep' wins best comedy series
• Julia Louis-Dreyfus wins best actress in a comedy for 'Veep'
• Donald Glover wins best actor in a comedy for 'Atlanta'. Glover has already won tonight for directing. He is the first African-American man to win an Emmy for comedy directing.Big win!
• 'Last Week Tonight With John Oliver' wins best variety talk series. It’s the second award of the night for Oliver and it’s another one for HBO. Congrats!
• Actors Priyanka Chopra and Anthony Anderson onstage to announce the award for best variety talk series
• Don Roy King wins best directing for a variety series, again for 'Saturday Night Live'
• Charlie Brooker wins best writer for a limited series or movie Black Mirror
• And the best director for a drama series goes to...Reed Morano for 'The Handmaid’s Tale'. Another well-deserved award.
• 'The Voice' wins best reality competition program
• Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe win Emmy for best writing for a comedy series for 'Master of None'. Waithe receives a standing ovation as she becomes the first African-American to ever win in this category. Indeed a proud moment.
• Another win for 'The Handmaid’s Tale'. Congrats Ann Dowd for best supporting actress in a drama series. She goes emotional. It's after seven nominations that she is winning an award.
• 'Last Week Tonight With John Oliver' wins best writing for a variety series. A much-deserved award. Congrats Oliver!
• Alexander Skarsgard wins best supporting actor in a limited series or movie for 'Big Little Lies'
• Jean-Marc Valle wins best directing of a limited series or movie for 'Big Little Lies'
• Alec Baldwin wins best supporting actor in a comedy series for 'Saturday Night Live'. He won the award for his portrayal of Donald Trump. Another win for the series! He says "at long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy." It's the third Emmy for Baldwin.
• Bruce Miller wins best writer for a drama series for 'The Handmaid’s Tale'
• And the much awaited award for best variety sketch series goes to 'Saturday Night Live'

• Laura Dern wins best supporting actress in a limited series or a movie for 'Big Little Lies'
• Kate McKinnon wins best supporting actress in a comedy series for 'Saturday Night Live'
• The first award goes to John Lithgow for best supporting actor in a drama series for 'The Crown'
• Here comes Stephen Colbert to kick off the 2017 Emmy Awards with a musical number and a plethora of jokes.
Politics promise to run through Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles, starting with host Stephen Colbert, whose relentless attacks on Trump have brought a surge of viewers to "The Late Show."
"The biggest TV star of this year is undoubtedly Donald Trump. No one's close," quipped Colbert ahead of the ceremony.
