Kanaka keen on comeback, clears the air on rumours

Yesteryear South Indian actress Kanaka Mahalakshmi is back in the limelight as she opened up about the tragedies she had to face in real life. The actress had recently hit the headlines when her fake death reports surfaced online.

Talking to a Tamil online portal, Kanaka said, “I don't care about the fake death news for I have been through much more since a long time. I'm perfectly healthy. There were news that I was in Alleppey (in Kerala) for cancer treatment. I have been to the place only once for the shoot of Vietnam Colony with Mohanlal sir. I stayed away from cinema for personal reasons, but I'm likely to return soon," she said.

Further, she blamed her father for her plight. “It's my father who spoiled my mother's career and he is also responsible for all the tragedies in my life. He is the one who is spreading false news about me. He used to say that I was mentally unstable and my mother was a prostitute. He even stated that I was on drugs. Because of such conduct, I even stopped talking to him. I did my schooling only till class 6 as my mother had feared he would come and take me away. She suffered a lot before her death. She had supported my decision to act.”

Kanaka, who rose to fame with 1989 her Tamil blockbuster debut Karakattakaran, is the daughter of yesteryear actress Devika.

Since her mother passed away in 2002, Kanaka has been away from the film industry.
