Actor Gayathri Varsha has slammed dancer Divya Unni for not addressing the controversial incident, involving Uma Thomas MLA during the Mridanga Naadam event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Divya Unni was the face of the event, which was organised by Mridanga Vision, aimed at setting the world record for Bharatanatyam. However, the event drew flak after Uma Thomas was grievously injured after she fell from a stage set approximately 15 feet high from the ground.
Gayathri said Divya Unni didn’t have the heart to visit the injured MLA at the hospital or even express regret over the unfortunate accident. She criticised Divya Unni while speaking at the cultural meeting held as part of CPM Kottayam district conference.
Gayathri also alleged that the media had initially tried to cover up the names of the organisers. She also added that artistic endeavours have become commercialised and claimed that Divya Unni too was a victim of commercialisation of art.
Meanwhile, Divya Unni returned to the US, where she is based, amid police investigation. There were reports that the police were planning to record her statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
