Akhil Marar credits trolls as ‘Midnight Mullankolli’ trailer trends on YouTube

The trailer of 'Midnight Mullankolli', starring Akhil Marar in the lead, dropped yesterday and has been drawing plenty of attention online. Akhil, in a Facebook post, shared his excitement over the warm response and even credited the trolls aimed at him for helping the trailer go viral.

In his post, Akhil wrote that 'Midnight Mullankolli' is a small project without big stars, yet it is trending on YouTube purely because of the audience’s interest. ‘Until two days ago, people were worried I might contest the Assembly elections. Now, after watching the trailer, they are worried I might turn into a star in films,’ he wrote. ‘Don’t worry. Your trolling made the trailer a hit, and I believe the film too will be welcomed by you. Morning, noon and night, keep trolling me and criticising me. Truly, you are my real fans, my strength and my energy.’

Looking back on his journey, Akhil recalled how his love for acting began in childhood. ‘I first performed when I was in Class 5. I went on to write, direct and act in plays until Class 10, even winning the first prize in the Sub District Kalolsavam for a play where I played the lead. During festivals, I joined small mimicry troupes to perform skits. I continued acting through my Plus Two years, but after that, life became a struggle, a fight to hold my head high before a society that mocked me. Many tried to bring me down, but I kept going with the strength of the truth within me. I’ve played many roles in life, but this is my very first role in cinema. 'Midnight Mullankolli' is set in the mysterious village of Mullankolli, near the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. The story follows Arjun and his friends as they travel there for a close friend’s wedding, only to be pulled into a series of unexpected challenges. Their arrival sets off a chain of tense and gripping moments, which the film promises to bring alive on screen.
