Actor Baburaj has withdrawn his nomination for the position of General Secretary in the upcoming Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) elections. His decision comes in response to backlash regarding his candidacy, as he is currently facing accusations in a sexual assault case. Several individuals, including actors Mallika Sukumaran and Maala Parvathi, have raised concerns about his integrity in pursuing this position.
Baburaj was one of the candidates who had submitted his nomination to the general secretary post along with Kukku Parameshwaran and Raveendran. Raveendran withdrew his nomination for the post a day ago, making Kukku Parameshwaran the only candidate to the post. Scrutiny of nominations will be completed today.
Baburaj had served as joint secretary in AMMA previously, but the executive committee was dissolved soon several allegations were raised against key members. Actor Maala Parvathi alleged that superstar Mohanlal dissolved the committee since Baburaj maintained an adamant stand though he was asked to resign amid allegations of sexual assault against him.
Actor Anoop Chandran had also called for Baburaj's resignation as his candidacy would set a bad precedent for the organisation.
