The 71st National Film Awards made headlines for all the wrong reasons by snubbing Blessy’s Prithviraj-starrer 'Aadujeevitham', while showering accolades on what has been dubbed a right-wing propaganda film, 'The Kerala Story'. However, 'Aadujeevitham', or Christo Tomy, who was denied the Best Direction award after the jury dismissed 'Ullozhukku' as "just a family drama", were not the only ones overlooked, revealed Jeo Baby. His Mammootty-starrer 'Kaathal – The Core' was also submitted for consideration.

The director-actor, who was recently seen in Emcy Joseph’s 'Meesha', said he did not wish to comment on his film missing out at the National Awards, but he did register his protest against this year’s winners.

“We did submit our film for the National Awards, but I do not wish to make any comments about us not winning any. However, I want to express my disappointment over the awards that were given out this year,” he said.

According to sources, the jury had no standout remarks about Mammootty’s film. Jeo Baby's 'Kaathal – The Core' was adjudged Best Film at the 54th Kerala State Film Awards, although Mammootty lost the Best Actor title to Prithviraj. Several critics, movie buffs, and members of the film fraternity have voiced their objections to the National Film Awards jury for failing to recognise both 'Aadujeevitham' and 'Kaathal – The Core'.
