Producer Listin Stephen disclosed that Fahadh Faasil received a remuneration of Rs 1 lakh for acting in the superhit film ‘Chaappa Kurishu,’ which was released in 2011. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the South Indian Film Academy, Listin highlighted Fahadh’s remarkable growth as an actor over the years, noting that he is now in such demand that he is no more easily available, even for a fee of Rs 5 or even 10 crore. Fahadh Faasil was also the chief guest at the event.
"I had insisted that Fahadh attend this event," said Listin. "We couldn't collaborate on a film after Chaappa Kurishu. When we made that movie back in 2011, I didn’t pay him upfront. He told me I could pay him whatever I wished once the film was done. I told him it would be easier if he quoted a figure. He then mentioned that he was paid Rs 65,000 for Tournament, a film in which he had more screen time than even some supporting actors. He had poured his heart into that project — not just as an actor, but also as a writer and director.
"For Chaappa Kurishu, I paid him Rs 1 lakh. And look at where he is today. That same actor has now reached incredible heights. These days, even if you're willing to pay Rs 5 or 10 crore, getting his dates is next to impossible. That’s the magic of cinema.
Although Fahadh made his debut in ‘Kaiyethum Doorathu,’ it didn’t bring him the success he hoped for, leading to a long break. He returned later with Kerala Cafe and Tournament, and then came Chaappa Kurishu. Even recently, in an interview, he named Chaappa Kurishu as one of the best films of his career. I’ve taken a screenshot of that moment — it meant a lot to me.
Today, Fahadh is a pan-Indian actor, in demand across industries and languages. His journey is proof that setbacks are only temporary. Just like students take a break from school when they’re unwell, Fahadh stepped away from cinema briefly — only to return stronger than ever. His dedication and passion for the craft are something every aspiring filmmaker and actor should learn from."
The audience received Listin’s words with applause. Fahadh shared why he agreed to attend the event. “Listin had cast me in Chaappa Kurishu even when the makers didn’t want me. That is the reason why I am here today. There is an honesty in all the art forms. You should approach that art form with honesty and passion. I wish you all the best. Your journey has only begun. We will surely meet each other at a point. I truly hope that happens,” Fahadh said.
