Actress Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about her reservations regarding 'JSK', saying there were several aspects of the film that she could not agree with. She also clarified that she does not support the controversy linked to the name Janaki. In an interview with Ginger Media, the actress noted that the political undertones in the film might have contributed to the issues around it.
According to Anupama, 'JSK' failing to gain wide acceptance had its own reasons. She pointed out that some elements in the final cut were not part of the script she had read during the shoot. Certain political aspects, she added, did not align with her personal views. However, she admitted that this is not unusual in cinema, since the story that gets narrated at first is not always the one that finally makes it to the screen.
She explained that when she signed the project three years ago, it was primarily Janaki’s story that drew her in. Things shifted when Suresh Gopi joined the cast, which gave the film greater visibility and reach. The script also underwent further development during that time, but Anupama said she was unaware of those changes.
The actress revealed that her role with Suresh Gopi was limited to just one courtroom scene, and beyond that, she was not familiar with the rest of the narrative. Even during the film’s promotions, she had not watched it. It was only after the controversy erupted that she saw the film to check if there was indeed an issue.
Anupama reiterated that she did not agree with the row surrounding the name Janaki. At the same time, she acknowledged that some of the dialogues, politically, did not sit well with her either. She observed that perhaps the political messaging in 'JSK' itself became a problem and suggested it might have been better if those elements had not been included at all.
