The first look of ‘Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer’, produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies and starring Jayasurya, has been released.
The poster presents Jayasurya in a dark, commanding avatar. Standing on the edge of a jagged cliff against a storm-laden sky, he is cloaked in sweeping black robes that morph into ominous, root-like tendrils spreading across the ground. His long hair and beard lend a mystical, otherworldly presence, while flashes of lightning heighten the sense of danger and power.

Carrying the tagline “The one who steals your time, your mind, your reality,” the poster hints at the supernatural and psychological depth of the central character. The first look was unveiled on the occasion of Jayasurya’s birthday, adding to the anticipation surrounding the big-budget project.

Directed by Rojin Thomas and scripted by R. Ramanand, ‘Kathanar’ is being mounted as one of the most ambitious ventures in Malayalam cinema. Post-production for the magnum opus is currently in progress. The film is co-produced by Baiju Gopalan and V. C. Praveen, with Krishnamoorthy serving as executive producer.

Earlier, the film’s glimpse video had received overwhelming praise from audiences. Both the teaser and the poster suggest that ‘Kathanar’ could become one of the most defining roles in Jayasurya’s career.

Inspired by the legendary tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a priest from Kerala believed to have possessed supernatural powers, the film reimagines the character in a way markedly different from traditional stories and portrayals. The shoot, which spanned nearly one and a half years, was completed in October last year. This marks Rojin Thomas’ return to direction after ‘Home’, the National Award-winning film starring Indrans. ‘Kathanar’ has also embraced cutting-edge filmmaking, including the use of advanced virtual production technology.

Joining Jayasurya in the cast are Telugu superstar Anushka Shetty, Tamil actors Prabhudeva and Sandy Master, along with Kulpreet Yadav, Harish Uthaman, and Nitish Bharadwaj of ‘Njan Gandharvan’ fame.
