The production house's statement regarding commitment has been criticised, with many fans questioning the reasons for her exit and supporting the actress.

The decision to drop Deepika Padukone from the sequel to 'Kalki 2898 AD' has sparked outrage among her fans, some of whom took to social media to criticize the film’s production house, Vyjayanthi Movies. The backlash intensified after the studio's official statement, which some felt portrayed the actress in a negative light.

In their announcement, Vyjayanthi Movies stated: “This is to officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of Kalki 2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. A film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

The reference to ‘commitment’ in the statement didn’t sit well with fans, who accused the makers of subtly questioning Deepika’s professionalism. One user wrote on X, “The production team doesn't have the right to make such insinuations in the name of ‘commitment.’ Deepika isn't an average actress who has to accept just anything.” Another fan added, “Deepika should sue this production house for defaming her by implying she’s uncommitted. Totally unacceptable.”

Fans also expressed concern about the creative direction of the sequel, given Deepika’s significant role in the original. “Without Deepika, 2898 AD won’t feel like a continuation—it’ll feel like a hollow version of what it could’ve been,” one user commented.

Meanwhile, there were others who expressed solidarity with the production house, appreciating the makers for taking a bold stand against actors who make 'unrealistic demands'. 'Animal' actor Sandeep Reddy Vanga was the first to drop Deepika from his upcoming movie 'Spirit', claiming that the actor was demanding heavy pay and lesser work time.

While Vyjayanthi Movies has not officially disclosed the reason behind the fallout, industry insiders suggest contract disagreements may have played a role. According to reports, Deepika allegedly requested a 25% increase in her fee, 5-star accommodations for her team, and a seven-hour workday clause—all of which reportedly became points of contention. Despite the controversy, neither Deepika Padukone nor her team has issued a public response yet.
