Suchitra Mohanlal, a proud mother and wife, recently shared heartfelt memories at the pooja ceremony for her daughter Maya's film 'Thudakkam' in Kochi. The producer admitted she never imagined both her children would eventually enter the world of cinema. She fondly recalled a family moment when Maya, at just eight years old, starred in a home film shot and directed by her 12-year-old son, Pranav.
“It’s such a proud moment for me,” Suchitra said. “Today is truly special, as it marks my daughter Maya’s debut in the beautiful world of cinema with Thudakkam. When Pranav was 12 and Maya was eight, we made a family film called Angry Maya, where Maya played the lead role. I was behind the camera. Back then, I never imagined that both of them would step into the film industry. It feels like it’s all part of God’s plan and that the universe works in ways he wants.”
Suchitra said this year holds particular significance for her family. “This year is extra special. My husband received the prestigious Phalke Award, and today, Dies Irae, starring my son Pranav, is releasing. For Pranav, it’s not just another film. He’s not someone who takes on films every year; he only does one project every two years, which is why it is special for me.”
She also shared how Maya expressed her desire to act in films a few years ago. “When Maya told us she wanted to act, chettan (Mohanlal) was the first to tell her that it wouldn’t be easy. But as parents, it’s our responsibility to support our children in whatever they choose, as it’s about their future. That’s when we started speaking to Jude. Initially, he brought us two stories that didn’t quite work out. As time passed, I asked Vishak why Jude wasn’t bringing us any new stories. He reassured me that Jude would bring something eventually. And he did—this current story, which I immediately liked.”
She went on to explain how the film came to fruition. “Antony (Antony Perumbavoor) also read the script. By the time he finished, he asked me, ‘Who’s producing this?’ I looked at him and said, ‘Of course, it’s you, Antony.’ Antony was gracious enough to make this dream a reality. I also want to thank everyone working behind the scenes on Thudakkam. It’s truly a team effort.”
Suchitra ended with a heartfelt blessing for Maya. “I want to tell Maya that this journey is made possible by the blessings of her grandparents, the people who supported us and the grace of God. I wish her all the best with her new venture in Thudakkam.” She also extended her good wishes to Antony’s son, Anish, for his latest project.
Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, Thudakkam is an action drama featuring Maya and Ashish Antony in lead roles. The film’s shoot is taking place at SD Scapes in Kalamassery.
