Bollywood actor Makarand Deshpande, who was in Kochi for the pooja ceremony of his latest Malayalam film ‘Vaavval’, was all praise for Mollywood, maintaining that it is the only film industry that makes films of international quality. The actor, who was part of Lijo Jose Pellissery's film 'Amen', also lauded the Malayali audience, stating that their understanding of cinema is what gives even superstars the courage to do experimental movies, a trend absent in Bollywood.
“Malayalam cinema is unique and at the same time is closely connected to people’s lives. We often discuss why Malayalam makes the best movies. I ask my friends about the latest Malayalam movies they have watched. The audience here is extremely knowledgeable about cinema,” said Makarand.
Makarand graced the pooja and switch-on ceremony of ‘Vavvaal,’ a film scripted and directed by Shahmon B. Parelil. The event, held at the Chavara Cultural Centre, was attended by key cast Levin Simon, Lakshmi Chaporkar, and Praveen Gokulan. The film is produced under the banner of On Demands.
In addition, the technical crew for Vavval includes Manoj MJ as the cinematographer, Faisal P. Shahmon as the editor, and Anil Mathew as the production controller. The music for the film is composed by Johnson Peter, while costume design is handled by Bhaktan Mangad and the makeup is done by Santhosh Venpakal. The film will feature high-octane action sequences choreographed by Knock Nanda. Ashiq Diljith serves as the chief associate director, and AS Dinesh and Satheesh Eriyalath take charge as the public relations officers (PROs). Rahul Thankachan is responsible for still photography, while Opera and Hot and Sour manage the digital marketing. The film’s design work is led by Collins Leophil. The makers also announced that ‘Vavvaal’ will begin shooting next week.
