International Film Festival of India kicks off in Panaji, featuring films from numerous countries and honoring cinema legends.

The International Film Festival of India will kick-off in Panaji on Thursday with a gala float featuring tableaux from different states and government departments. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan said a total of 12 tableaux will participate in the event, aimed at showcasing the rich film culture of India. The festival will open with the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer ‘Amaran’ and will feature 270 films from 84 countries.

Japan is the country of focus at the festival this year, while Spain and Australia will be the partner country and the spotlight country respectively. The IFFI will also present award-winning films from Cannes, Berlinale, Venice and other international film festivals. Legendary actors Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will be honoured during the closing ceremony of the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here for completing 50 years in cinema.

Malayalam films at IFFI
Three Malayalam films - Mohanlal's 'Thudarum', Tovino Thomas-starrer ARM and Thamar K Vs 'Sakreet' have been selected for the 56th International Film Festival. ‘ARM’ is the only Malayalam film to compete under the category for debut director- Feature Films.

Shah Rukh Khan's Darr', 'DDLJ' to be screened in inflatable theatres
Three films of superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be screened at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), where the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) have partnered with mobile digital cinema company PictureTime Digiplex to introduce inflatable theatres at the annual film gala.

In a first-of-its-kind showcase, ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ will be screened inside a fully equipped inflatable cinema to be set up at Goa's Kala Academy, one of IFFI's primary venues The space will also screen films across four sections Inspirational Films, Indian Panorama Classics, Nostalgia and Children's Cinema. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan's classics, the inflatable theatre will also screen Vidhu Vinod Chopra's ‘12th Fail’, Malayalam hit ‘Manjummel Boys’, Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Srikanth’, Rani Mukerji's ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’, ‘Uunchai’ by Sooraj Barjatya, Mira Nair's ‘Salaam Bombay!’, ‘Qissa’, and classics such as ‘Shatranj Ke Khilari’, ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Chandni’ and ‘Kala Patthar’.
