The team behind ‘Kaathal: The Core’, one of the most talked-about Malayalam films in recent years, has opened up about the movie’s behind-the-scenes moments. As the film marks its second anniversary, Mammootty Kampany has released a BTS video on its YouTube channel, offering a look at how several key sequences were shot.

Directed by Jeo Baby and led by Mammootty and Jyotika, the video reveals the making of some of the film’s most intense and emotional scenes. The screenplay for ‘Kaathal: The Core’ was written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria.

The three-minute-eight-second BTS clip details how the highly emotional climax was captured. It features Mammootty’s teary cry of “ente daivame” that moved audiences, along with the moment in which Mammootty and Jyotika embrace and break down together. The video even shows Mammootty wiping his eyes right after the director calls “cut.”

Alongside these emotional segments, the video also showcases lighter moments from the set. Mammootty is seen taking photos of Jyotika with his personal camera, the duo sharing jokes and laughing together, and actor Suriya joining in through a video call.

‘Kaathal: The Core’, directed by Jeo Baby, was Mammootty Company’s production following ‘Kannur Squad’. In addition to Mammootty and Jyotika, the film featured Muthumani, Chinnu Chandni, Sudhi Kozhikode and Anagha Ravi in key roles. The film delved into a subject Malayalam cinema had rarely explored: the inner life and struggles of a queer individual.

It examined the societal pressures placed on a person’s privacy and relationships, and the emotional isolation they endure due to their sexual identity. The film was widely praised for its sensitive treatment of a contemporary, socially relevant theme and for Mammootty’s nuanced performance in its emotional scenes. Its exploration of unexpected family revelations and the journey toward healing sparked extensive discussion.
