The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) has entered into a goodwill collaboration with global film discovery and review platform Letterboxd, marking the first time an Indian film festival has forged such an association, said Kerala State Chalachitra Academy secretary C Ajoy. As part of the tie-up, IFFK has also been added to Letterboxd HQ, the platform’s curated space that highlights major film institutions and festivals worldwide.

Letterboxd HQ is a dedicated section on the platform that features verified film festivals, academies, and cultural institutions. It functions as an official hub where festivals are showcased, their screenings are tracked, and audience responses are aggregated, offering global visibility and credibility within the international film community.

Ajoy, while explaining the significance of the partnership, said Letterboxd already has an established presence with major international film bodies such as the Oscar Academy, BAFTA and the British Film Institute, and is associated with leading global festivals including Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno.

“We initially approached them only for verification. However, they came forward with a free-of-cost collaboration,” he said. According to Ajoy, Letterboxd expressed happiness in associating with a festival like IFFK, which sees around 16,000 delegates and records an overall footfall of more than 1.5 lakh during the event.

The collaboration will enable IFFK delegates to access the Letterboxd platform and share reviews of films they watch at the festival. Filmmakers participating in IFFK will also be able to view these responses, allowing them to directly engage with audience feedback.

As part of the initiative, the festival is offering a limited-edition name card to delegates as a souvenir. The card allows delegates to note down their four favourite films from the festival. The souvenir name cards will be distributed free of cost and can be collected from the festival office by the first 300 delegates, Ajoy said. The collaboration is expected to strengthen IFFK’s global presence while connecting Kerala’s premier film festival to a wider international network of cinephiles and filmmakers.
