Mammootty and Mohanlal’s ‘Patriot’ postponed; revised date to be revealed soon

The theatrical release of the Malayalam film Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, has been postponed from its previously announced date of April 23. The makers confirmed the change on Tuesday, stating that the delay was necessary to ensure the film reaches audiences in the best possible form.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the team said they were working to present the espionage thriller with the “highest possible quality,” but a set of unforeseen circumstances had made it difficult to meet the original schedule. As a result, the film’s release has been pushed back by a few days.

“We are working hard to bring Patriot to you at the highest possible quality. However, due to a combination of unforeseen circumstances, it has become necessary to postpone the film's release from the previously scheduled date of April 23 by a few days,” the statement said.

The makers also confirmed that the revised release date will be made public shortly. According to the announcement, the new date will be revealed at 6 pm on Wednesday through the official social media pages of Mammootty and Mohanlal, who are affectionately referred to by fans as Mammukka and Lalettan.

The postponement comes months after the film’s teaser was unveiled on October 2 last year, generating significant interest among fans and industry watchers. The teaser offered a glimpse into a tense narrative driven by themes of power, influence and secrecy. It opened with a voiceover reflecting on leaders who manipulate people through faith, setting a sombre and intriguing tone for the story that follows.

Visuals from the teaser introduced Mammootty’s character as someone involved in a covert operation, hinting at a larger conspiracy at play. Mohanlal appeared in the role of a soldier, while Fahadh Faasil’s brief but intense presence added another layer of tension, suggesting intersecting storylines and high-stakes conflict. The footage indicated that the film would delve into complex power struggles and morally grey characters, hallmarks often associated with political and espionage dramas.

Alongside Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film features Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in significant roles. The cast also includes Rajeev Menon, Revathy, Grace Antony, Zarin Shihab, Sreeparvathy, Geethi Sangeetha, Jinu Joseph, Danish Husain, Shaheen Siddique, Sanal Aman and Prakash Belawadi. The presence of actors from different industries and backgrounds points to the film’s scale and its ambition to appeal to a wide audience.
