Mammootty believes 'Patriot' will be a Malayalam cinema game-changer, focusing on local audiences and societal issues, not just spectacle, despite its international shoot.

Kochi: In a recent press meet held in Kochi, megastar Mammootty shared insights into why he believes Patriot, the upcoming movie directed by Mahesh Narayanan, has the potential to be a game-changer for the Malayalam film industry. The actor emphasised that 'Patriot' was crafted with a specific focus on Malayali audiences, rather than aiming for a pan-Indian reach. “This film is made for Malayalis,” Mammootty shared. “While we hope it may eventually find an audience outside Kerala, the primary goal was to cater to the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved significantly over the years.” "This is not a pan-Indian film," the megastar emphasised.

He went on to address the action sequences in the film, which have been a major talking point. Both Mammootty and Mohanlal have intense fight scenes, but the actor cautioned fans not to expect them to be flashy or sensational. “These fights are not included just for spectacle. There’s a deeper reason behind them, which will become clear once you watch the film,” he said. Mammootty stressed that Patriot is more than just action, it is a movie that tackles a pressing societal issue, one that everyone should watch with a sense of purpose, rather than looking for gimmicks or exaggerated drama.

Director Mahesh Narayanan also acknowledged the risk of making a film that may not resonate with the average viewer, especially those unfamiliar with the spy thriller genre. “But think about it—everyone in Kerala has a phone. This movie will connect with anyone who holds one,” Mahesh said at the press meet, drawing attention to the modern relevance of the film’s themes.

Mammootty further highlighted that 'Patriot' is a milestone in terms of production value, noting that it has been made on an impressive budget, with scenes shot in multiple international locations. He pointed out that, until now, Kerala's reception of big-budget Malayalam films has been lukewarm compared to how other languages have embraced such projects. “Patriot will be a game-changer. It will set a new standard, and hopefully, open the doors for more big-budget films in Malayalam cinema,” Mammootty said. He also commended Mahesh Narayanan’s creative vision, adding, “When a director can fully visualize a movie and translate that vision onto the screen, you know you’re part of something truly cinematic.”
