Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan

Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya and son Abhishek will get Rs 50,000 every month from the Uttar Pradesh government as part of the newly minted pension scheme for those who have been awarded with the Yash Bharti Samman.

The Bachchans will be among the first beneficiaries of the scheme to get Rs 50,000 monthly pension for life, announced the UP government on Tuesday.

The cabinet announced that all recipients of the state's highest honour will be eligible to receive a Rs 50,000 monthly pension for life.

The award will be discontinued whenever the Samajwadi Party is not in power. Earlier this year, the SP government gave the award to 56 people.

About 150 people who trace their origins to the state have so far received the award that was instituted in 1994. Amitabh Bachchan's father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was also conferred the honour in its inaugural year.
