‘My Boss’ inspired, ‘Drishyam’ not a copy

I have been inspired by a movie to make another movie only in the case of My Boss. Some people said Drishyam was a copy. I deny that.

The film came into my mind during a conversation with friends about an affair between two teenagers we all knew. We were confused about whom to back in this affair which had pitted two families against each other.

I thought that confusion was good film material. When mobile phones became a part of our lives, I included that in the story.

Then I felt a murder could make it more thrilling. Drishyam was developed over 10 or 12 years. I don’t care if some people don’t trust me when I say this.

I saw two Hollywood movies two years ago. Both of them were set in the White House with only minor differences. This is proof enough that two people at different corners of the world can think alike. Can you say one of them was copying the other just because they were thinking alike?
