Kochi: Actor-director Sidharth Bharathan, who was undergoing treatment after being seriously injured in a car accident last month, will be discharged from the Medical Trust Hospital here on Friday.

On Thursday, Sidharth appeared before media for the first time since the accident.  The filmmaker was seen in the company of his mother and actress KPAC Lalitha, doctors who treated him and Medical Trust Hospital MD P.V. Antony.

"Sidharth's body took in treatment in a positive manner and it helped him recover faster," doctors said at a press conference.

According to hospital sources, Sidharth can now walk with support.

Though the accident had caused internal bleeding in Sidharth's brain, the actor responded positively to the treatment and underwent a couple of surgeries successfully.

Sidharth was critically injured after his car crashed into a roadside wall near Kochi around 2.00 am on September 12.

Sidharth is the son of legendary Malayalam film director late Bharathan and actress KPAC Lalitha.

Dileep-starrer Chandrettan Evideya, directed by Sidharth earlier this year, was a box office success. The accident happened at a time when discussions were going on for his new project.

Sidharth made his acting debut with Kamal-directed Nammal in 2002 and in 2012, directed his first feature film Nidra, a remake of the 1981 film by his father.

Though a brief role, his performance in Spirit was lauded by many. Both his directorial ventures had won critical acclaim.
