Thiruvananthapuram: The theatres in the state will remain shut on Thursday as a token strike to protest the decision to collect cess from tickets by Kerala State Cultural Activists Fund Board (KSCAFB) to help 'poor artistes' with a monthly pension.
The A-Class Theatre Owners' Association, Film Exhibitors Federation, B-Class Theatre Owners' Association, the Cine Exhibitors Association and the multiplexes in shopping malls under Carnival Group will take part in the strike.
The theatre owners also allege corruption in awarding the project to install electronic ticketing machines to a private company without floating tender.
The theatre owners are planning an indefinite strike from May 2 if no favourable actions are taken in this regard.
