Sidharth Bharathan is charting newer paths of excellence and moving ahead with renewed energy in Malayalam cinema. The son of master craftsman Bharathan and the supremely talented KPAC Lalitha is also making his mark in Malayalam cinema. Sidharth Bharathan talks to Manorama about his upcoming film ‘Jinn’ which will be released on the 30th of this month.

What is 'Jinn'?

Jinn isn’t a fantasy, supernatural film. You talk about being possessed by a Jinn right? We have taken that thread and turned it into an entertainer. It was the thought of making a humorous, fun film that led to a film like 'Jinn'. We wanted to explore the city and village in the process. Scriptwriter Rajesh and I started work on this film in 2018. We finished the shooting just before the Covid lockdown. We continued to make the film better by working more on editing and other areas. ‘Jinn’ is a film made for the theatres.

How did you come to Soubin?

We needed a good performer who could pull off the role of someone possessed by Jinn convincingly. Both of us (writer Rajesh and me) agreed to give this role to Soubin. We knew he would perform well if he were given a good space. The role also goes through various emotional upheavals. And Soubin has done a great job as expected.

Life without mother…

This February it will be a year since her death The longest year of my life. I can’t say that I have really come out of the pain. I know that I can forget my pain only if I am doing something creative. There is no other way out. That’s why I am making back-to-back films.
