Actor Rajisha Vijayan has addressed the physical transformation she underwent for her upcoming film 'Masthishka Maranam', a change that has drawn attention in recent months. Speaking to Manorama Online’s Soul Side interview series, the actor, who is completing ten years in cinema across Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries, said the decision was guided entirely by the demands of the role.

“For six months, my life was centred around the gym,” Rajisha said. “'Masthishka Maranam' required a great deal of physical effort. Many scenes demanded strength and stamina. When a film calls for that kind of preparation, I enjoy committing to it. I felt the same way when I prepared for 'June' as well.”

Rajisha made her mark with her debut 'Anuraga Karikkin Vellam', winning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress, and has since built a body of work that spans multiple industries. Her latest project, 'Masthishka Maranam', is directed by Krishand, the National and State Award-winning filmmaker behind 'Aavasavyuham', a collaboration she describes as creatively fulfilling.

A private person who values time away from the spotlight, Rajisha said family and travel remain important anchors in her life. “Travelling feels meditative,” she said. Recalling her first discussion with Krishand about the film, she described the idea as one she had not encountered in a long time. “Set in 2046, the story follows a film actress, and the concept felt distinctly different from anything he had done before. Given his earlier work, I was keen to be part of the film and to do what the story required — including performing an item number.”

Rajisha noted that doing an item song was not something she had previously planned for, but said the director clearly explained its place within the narrative. “I wanted the film to happen and I wanted to portray this character. As people, we evolve and our perspectives change. This film allows room for that kind of shift,” she said.

Speaking about her experience on the film, Rajisha added that 'Masthishka Maranam' offered her the opportunity to explore unfamiliar creative spaces. “Each look in the film is distinct, and I’ve experimented with appearances I wouldn’t normally attempt, even for a photoshoot. Opportunities like this are rare. A character of this nature may come only once in an actor’s career, and I feel fortunate to have been part of it. I’ve given it my best, and I believe 'Masthishka Maranam' is a film that deserves to be seen in theatres.”
