Javed Akhtar stunned as PM biopic credits him as lyricist

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar on Friday denied writing songs for Omung Kumar B directorial "PM Narendra Modi", a biopic of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Akhtar took to Twitter and expressed shock to see his name in the credits of the film's trailer.

"I am shocked to find my name on the poster of this film. Have not written any songs for it," Akhtar tweeted along with the snapshot of the trailer's video in which his name was mentioned among several other artistes in the lyrics category.

With this, netizens seem to have stirred up a storm and currently a hot trend on Twitter is 'a propaganda film',  referring to the biopic which is scheduled to release just ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

While many asked Akhtar to file a defamation suit against the filmmakers, some others counter-attacked him for his demands for a cordial relation with Pakistan prior to the Pulwama attack.

Well, the filmmakers are yet to respond to the controversy.

The trailer of the Hindi film 'PM Narendra Modi' -- based on the life of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- was launched on Thursday.

The film will showcase the journey of Modi from his humble beginnings to his years as the Gujarat Chief Minister, to the landmark win in the 2014 general elections, and finally becoming the prime minister in May 2014.

Actor Vivek Anand Oberoi is essaying the role of Modi in the biopic, which is scheduled to release on April 5.

The schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election was announced earlier this month. The polls will be held in seven phases beginning April 11.
